"Answering the Call of the Wild"

“Answering the Call of the Wild”

There are un-sung heroes. Just like in any profession, there are those that seemed to go “under the radar”. The un-sung hero, the ones who are usually the back bone of that profession. The un-sung hero, does what has to be done with what they have available, usually has to adapt and overcome. Yep, every profession has them. Well, I’d like to draw attention to some of the un-sung heroes of the fire service, the wildland firefighter.

Men and women who go to the most remote areas, walking in carrying their equipment. Some even get there by jumping out of a plane. Going in to fight fires as large as the trees they are in the middle of, using picks shovels and even fire to fight fire. Fighting fires so intense it makes trees explode. Fire that moves to fast, you can be caught in the middle with no way out. These are the un-sung heroes of the fire service, working hours that aren’t nine to five. They work hours that start when they job starts and finishes when the job is finished, no matter how long. The work is, to say the least, hard, dirty and exhausting. Yet these men and women press on.

How do you say thank you. How do you show and say you support them. Support and appreciate them for protecting us, our homes and our natural forests and parks from the ravages of fire. I don’t we can really ever say thank you enough, here at Fire and Axes we have tried by designing a shirt that is just for them. Wildland Firefighter “Answering the Call of the Wild” is a design that is our way of celebrating these un-sung heroes of the fire service. So for all you wildland firefighters reading this…….thank you.
