About Fire & Axes

Dedicated to the Firefighters Who Answer the Call

Fire & Axes was created to honor the brave men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting their communities through service, sacrifice, courage, and commitment.

This site is dedicated to my grandfather, Assistant Fire Chief David Foyle England, whose life embodied the values of duty, leadership, and service to others.

Before becoming a firefighter, David England answered his nation’s call during World War II as a United States Marine with the legendary 1st Marine Division. He fought in some of the Pacific Theater’s most historic campaigns, including Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, and Peleliu, earning two battlefield commissions through exceptional leadership and courage under fire.

After returning home from war, he continued serving his community as a firefighter, eventually rising to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief. While many heroes hang up their uniforms after military service, he chose to continue protecting others—this time on the streets of his hometown rather than the battlefields of the Pacific.

His example inspired the creation of Fire & Axes.

A Legacy of Service

Few professions demand more sacrifice than firefighting.

When others are running away from danger, firefighters are running toward it.

Every alarm carries uncertainty. Every call may involve someone’s worst day. Every shift requires preparation, courage, and the willingness to place the safety of others above one’s own.

Whether battling structure fires, vehicle accidents, hazardous material incidents, medical emergencies, natural disasters, or rescue operations, firefighters stand ready twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Firefighters do not serve for recognition.

They serve because communities depend on them.

That spirit of selfless service is the foundation of Fire & Axes.

Inspired by American Fire Service Tradition

The American fire service has a rich heritage stretching back more than three centuries.

From volunteer bucket brigades in colonial America to today’s highly trained professional departments, firefighters have always represented the very best of public service.

Generations of firefighters have answered alarms during:

  • Urban fires

  • Industrial disasters

  • Hurricanes

  • Wildfires

  • Floods

  • Terrorist attacks

  • Medical emergencies

  • Search and rescue operations

Their courage has saved countless lives and protected communities across the nation.

At Fire & Axes, we believe those stories deserve to be remembered and celebrated.

Why Fire & Axes?

The axe has long been one of the most recognizable symbols of the fire service.

For generations, firefighters have relied upon axes to gain entry, create access, perform rescues, and combat dangerous conditions.

The axe represents action, determination, and readiness.

Combined with fire itself, it symbolizes the daily battle firefighters wage against chaos and destruction in order to protect life and property.

The name Fire & Axes reflects both the tools and the spirit of the profession.

A Family Tradition of Honor

My grandfather taught through example that service does not end when one chapter of life closes.

He served his nation as a United States Marine during World War II and then served his community as a firefighter and Assistant Fire Chief.

His life demonstrated that true leadership is not measured by rank or title but by one’s willingness to serve others.

That lesson remains the guiding principle behind Fire & Axes today.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple:

To create the finest firefighter challenge coins, apparel, gifts, and collectibles while honoring the traditions, history, and sacrifices of the American fire service.

We believe every firefighter deserves recognition.

Every alarm answered matters.

Every life saved matters.

Every sacrifice matters.

To America’s Firefighters

To the firefighters standing watch tonight.

To the volunteers who leave family dinners when the pager sounds.

To the career firefighters protecting our cities.

To the wildland crews battling massive fires.

To the rescue teams, EMS professionals, officers, chiefs, and retirees who have dedicated their lives to protecting others.

Thank you.
